How to connect: Enelion

Requirements

  • Physical access to the charger and its Wi-Fi hotspot (configuration is done on-site via the hotspot).

  • Laptop or mobile phone with a web browser.

  • Charger internet access via WLAN or GSM (verify under Network > Overview before configuring OCPP).

  • Hotspot password from the box, the charger head, or the documentation supplied by Enelion (Tap notes the hotspot can be open by default).

  • Administrator credentials for the configuration panel (default admin / admin); administrator rights are required to change OCPP settings.

  • For a charging network: know which unit is the Master, and assign unique consecutive Connector IDs; the Master's Number of Connectors must match or exceed all Connector IDs in the network.

Connect your charger

Access the configuration panel:

  1. Power up the charger.

  2. On a laptop or smartphone, scan for the charger's own Wi-Fi hotspot and connect to it. The network name contains the serial number: sources show it as Enelion-XXXX-XXXX (e-flux), Enelion-xxxx-xxx (eCarUp) or EnelionChargerXXX where XXX is the last three characters of the communication module serial (Tap). The hotspot password is printed on the box and on the charger head, or in the documentation supplied by Enelion; per the Tap guide the network can also be unpassword-protected by default.

  3. Open a web browser and go to http://192.168.8.8.

  4. Log in as administrator: username admin, default password admin. Administrator login is required to change OCPP settings.

Prepare the charger:

  1. Verify the charger has internet access: check Network > Overview. If it is not online yet, connect it via WLAN or GSM in the Network section first.

  2. Under the Charger menu open Authorisation and remove FreeCharge mode from the active settings, then save. FreeCharge must be disabled so the backend controls authorization.

Configure OCPP:

  1. Go to OCPP > Connection and choose Connect to specified Management System. Enable the OCPP connection.

  2. Fill in the Connection fields:

  • OCPP URL / OCPP address: wss://proxy.plugchoice.com/v1

  • Charge Point ID (shown as StationID in some firmware): a unique name for the station, max 20 characters, no spaces

  • Number of connectors: the socket quantity; in a charging network it must match or exceed all Connector IDs in the network

  • Device Mode: Master (a standalone charger, or the one unit that talks to the backend)

  • Connector ID: 1 for a single Master station; unique consecutive numbers across a network

  • Freecharge idTag: leave empty unless Plugchoice instructs otherwise (sources conflict, see troubleshooting)

  • Password: only if authentication is required for the connection; otherwise leave empty

  1. Save the settings and restart (reboot) the charger.

Verify:

  1. After the reboot, check the connection state under status in the configuration panel: it should show Connected. The charger should then appear in Plugchoice within approximately one minute.

After saving and restarting, the charger opens a websocket to Plugchoice. The panel's connection state should show Connected; the charger then appears in Plugchoice within approximately one minute.

Registering your charger in Plugchoice

  1. Add the charger using the chargepoint ID. Enelion calls this field Charge Point ID (eCarUp, e-flux, vendor white paper) or StationID (Tap guide). It is a unique name for the station: max 20 characters, no spaces (eCarUp). The e-flux guide uses the charger serial number as the value.

Done! The charger should come online.

Troubleshooting

Did you set everything up correctly, but the charger still remains "Pre-registered"?

  • Connection failure with 'Handshake status 404 not found' means the server does not accept the station: re-check the entered URL and Charge Point ID and make sure the charger has been added on the Plugchoice side (vendor white paper).

  • Charger not reachable at 192.168.8.8: confirm you are connected to the charger's own hotspot, not your regular Wi-Fi.

  • No backend connection after saving: verify internet access under Network > Overview (WLAN or GSM) and reboot the charger; the status page must show Connected.

  • Freecharge idTag guidance conflicts between sources: e-flux says leave it empty, eCarUp says it must not be empty, and the vendor white paper describes it as enabling charging without an RFID card if the backend accepts it. Default to empty and adjust only if authorization behaves unexpectedly.

  • In a Master/Slave mesh, only the Master is configured with the OCPP backend URL. Slave stations need only a unique Connector ID and the Freecharge ID Tag; they communicate with the Master via Wi-Fi Mesh or wired CAN and do not require internet access. Verify the topology in the Charging Network > Overview tab (vendor white paper).

  • For better charging-power display, set the meter values interval to 30 to 60 seconds via the OCPP configuration keys (GetConfiguration / ChangeConfiguration) (eCarUp).
