  • The Nidec BYS app or local config tool (DC Tower)

  • The charger's serial number

Connect your charger

Option 1: AC Tower

Via USB:

  1. Connect a USB-A to micro USB cable to the controller port marked CONFIG.

Via ethernet:

  1. Connect an ethernet cable from your laptop to the controller.

  2. In the Network submenu, set up the connection (DHCP or static).

  3. Go to the Backend submenu.

  4. Set OCPP ChargeBoxIdentity to the serial number.

  5. Set OCPP Mode to OCPP-J 1.6.

  6. In WebSockets JSON OCPP URL of the Backend, enter: ws://proxy.plugchoice.com/v1

  7. Check the connection in the Dashboard submenu.

Option 2: DC Tower

  1. Connect the charger to the internet: ethernet into the OCPP ethernet port, or a SIM into slot SIM 1 on the OCPP router.

  2. Open the Nidec BYS app, or use the local config tool below.

Local config tool:

  1. Connect your laptop to the SCI ethernet port.

  2. Set your laptop's IP to 192.168.10.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

  3. In a browser, go to http://192.168.10.1:81/configurator and log in as operator.

  4. Open the Ocpp tab.

Then, in the app or config tool:

  1. Set OCPP connectivity to mobile or ethernet.

  2. Mobile: enter the APN from your SIM provider, username and password empty.

  3. Set the connection string to: ws://proxy.plugchoice.com/v1/DC-xxxxxx

  4. Replace xxxxxx with the charger's serial number.

  5. Restart the charger.

Registering your charger in Plugchoice

  1. Add the charger using the chargepoint ID. For the AC Tower, this is the serial number. For the DC Tower, this is DC- plus the serial number. Both are case sensitive.

Done! The charger should come online.

Troubleshooting

Did you set everything up correctly, but the charger still remains "Pre-registered"?

  • The chargepoint ID in Plugchoice must exactly match the ChargeBoxIdentity (AC) or the ID in the URL (DC).

  • AC Tower: check OCPP Mode is OCPP-J 1.6.

  • DC Tower: lost the config tool password? Contact Nidec.

  • Using a SIM? Check the APN settings and the signal.
