App guide for installers

In this guide, you will learn how to configure chargers and locations with the Plugchoice app as an installer.

You're an installer and you have to commission a charger with the Plugchoice app (download here).

In this guide, you will learn:

  • Creating a location

  • Adding a meter for Power Management

  • Adding a charger

  • Adding cards

  • Inviting the owner

  • Recommissioning existing chargers

Commissioning new chargers

1. Before you start

  • Ask the end-user to install the Plugchoice app.

  • Ask the end-user to install the meter app (e.g. Chargee).

  • Make sure the charger is powered on.

  • Sign in to the app with your email address, a passkey, Google or Apple.

2. Select or create a location

  • Go to Overview and tap the location name at the top to open the location switcher.

  • Select the desired location, or tap Create a new location and then Set up a new charger.

Add a meter

When you set up a new location, the app asks for a meter after the charger. The meter is used for Power Management (Dynamic Load Balancing, Solar Balancing and Peak Shaving), which needs the Smart license.

If you're adding a Sparky or Flint meter, the end-user must separately connect this meter to the internet using the Chargee app.

For existing locations, tap Connect a meter under the house on Overview, or go to Overview > gear icon (Location settings) > Main fuse.

3. Add a charger

Go to the Chargers tab and tap the + (Add charger). This opens Plugchoice Link, where you choose the brand and model of the charger.

  • For a Volt Time One or Source 2s, enter the serial number and pincode from the sticker delivered with the charger. If the charger is not online yet, Link helps you put it on Wi-Fi over Bluetooth.

  • For a number of other brands the app sets up the charger for you: choose With this app.

  • For other brands, choose By hand and enter the Plugchoice details in the charger's own settings or app, following the guide Link shows.

Configuration

Link then guides you through the remaining steps for that charger. Applying the configuration can take a while.

4. Add cards

Go to Overview > gear icon (Location settings) > Authorization and, under Cards, tap Add card. Scan the card on the card reader of one of the chargers and give it a name. The card then works on every charger at the location.

5. Connect an operator (backoffice)

If the end-user wants to work with a billing operator or energy management system, go to Chargers > Settings > Operator and tap Add operator.

If the operator is responsible for energy reimbursement, you must select Billing as the connection role. If your operator isn't listed, tap Custom websocket URL and enter the operator's websocket URL.

6. Invite the owner

Go to Overview > gear icon (Location settings) > Members, tap Invite member and enter the customer's email address. At Transfer ownership?, choose Yes, make them owner.

The end-user can scan the QR code on your screen or use the link in their email to accept the invitation. Ask them to sign in with the same email address you invited: with Apple's Hide My Email, Apple gives them a different address and the invitation does not reach that account.

After the transfer, the new owner decides which access you keep. If you service the charger, ask them to keep your access.

Re-configuring existing chargers

To change the configuration of a charger, tap the location name on Overview and choose the charger's location. Go to Chargers > Settings and tap Reconfigure. To put the charger on another Wi-Fi network, use Network settings on the same screen, if your charger supports it.

Adding new chargers to an existing location

Tap the location name on Overview and choose the charger's location. Then go to Chargers and tap the + to add a new charger in Plugchoice Link.

How to gain access to a location

Ask the end-user to go to Overview > gear icon (Location settings) > Members > Invite member. They must:

  • Keep themselves as owner: No, I am the owner

  • Give you data access: Yes, give access

You can then scan the QR code or use the link in the email to get access to the location and its chargers.
