Managing chargers

How to add and manage your chargers across Plugchoice

By adding chargers, you can check their status, configure them, and use Plugchoice's charging features. Chargers are added to a location, which has an owner and possibly extra members who can see the chargers in that location.

Adding and removing chargers

Adding a charger always opens Plugchoice Link. There you pick the brand and model, and Link shows the steps for that charger. For a number of brands, Link sets the charger up from the app itself (With this app). For other brands, you choose By hand and Link shows the guide for that brand.

To add a charger, you need:

  • A location to add the charger to

  • For a Volt Time charger: its serial number and pincode

  • For a charger you set up by hand: access to the charger's own settings or app. Its chargepoint ID helps there.

If you're an end user, your charger is probably already added to a location and your installer should invite you to the location.

To add and remove chargers:

App

To add a charger to a location, first make sure you're in the correct location by checking the Overview screen. Then go to Chargers and press + (Add charger).

To remove a charger from a location, go to Chargers > Settings > Remove from location.

Web portal

Go to Chargers, or Locations > [your location] > Chargers, and press Add charger.

To remove a charger from a location, go to Locations > [your location] > Chargers, open Actions on the charger's row and choose Unlink.

To permanently delete a charger, go to Chargers, open Actions on its row and choose Delete. A Volt Time charger cannot be deleted: unlink it from its location instead.

After adding the charger, you:

  • Must configure it

  • Add cards to the location

  • Explore charger settings

  • Transfer ownership of the location or invite members

Moving chargers to a different location

In the web portal, go to Chargers > [your charger] > Diagnostics, open the menu on the location card and choose Move to different location. You need data access to both locations. After the move, the charger has to be configured again.

In the app, first remove the charger from its current location. Then add it to the new location with Add charger.

Pincodes

When a charger is added to Plugchoice, a pincode is generated for it automatically. So if you're an installer or end user, the pincode probably already exists and comes with the charger. If you have access to the charger, you also find it in the app under Chargers > Settings > Pincode.

Frequently asked

Which chargers are supported?

Plugchoice works with many OCPP chargers, depending on model, firmware and configuration. Most chargers sold today support OCPP. Link shows for each brand how the charger is added.

Can my charger reach Plugchoice through another backend?

Connect the charger to Plugchoice directly. If it reaches Plugchoice through another company's backend, proxy or gateway, Plugchoice gives no support or service levels for that connection unless a signed agreement covers it, and paid modules need a direct connection. To keep working with another operator, add it under Operators in the charger's settings in the web portal, or under Operator in the app.

The charger is already in someone else's account

Link can send the current holder a request to add the charger to your account, which they can approve or reject. They get at least 7 days to answer. If they approve or don't answer, the charger can move to your account. If they reject it, support decides based on your evidence, such as a deed, a rental agreement or a charging session.

I lost my pincode

If you have access to the charger, it's in the app under Chargers > Settings > Pincode. Otherwise, contact us via the chat bubble or at [email protected].
