Teams (companies or personal teams) can be members of a location. Everyone in such a team can see, manage and control the chargers at that location, depending on the access level the team has.
Inviting members
The owner of a location can invite members. A member with data access can invite people too; whoever they invite gets basic access until the owner gives more.
You also use an invitation to transfer ownership of the location to someone else.
App
App
First make sure you are in the right location: its name is at the top of Overview. Press the name to switch to another location.
Then go to Overview > gear icon (Location settings) > Members and press Invite member. Enter the email address, then answer Transfer ownership? and Access to sensitive data?.
After the invitation is sent, a QR code appears on your screen. The other person can scan it with their phone to join the location right away.
Web portal
Web portal
Go to Locations > (your location) > Settings > Members and press Invite new member. Choose My team or Invite by email, set the data access (Transfer ownership, Grant data access), choose an expiry date or Never expires, check the invite and press Send invite.
The person you invite receives an invitation link by email. The change only takes effect once they accept the invitation.
Used the wrong email address? The person can open the link, sign in with the account of their choice and join your location with it. Someone who signs in with Apple and Hide My Email has an account with an Apple relay address; they open the invitation link while signed in with that account.
Managing members, data access and ownership
What a member sees and can do depends on their access level. The owner of the location decides who has access and at which level, and can change or end any access at any time.
Invite only people you trust, and check your members now and then. Give your installer data access when they need it to help you.
There are 3 access levels:
Access level | Can do | Can see |
Basic access App: Limited access Web portal: No sensitive access (Basic access on a pending invite) | Operate and configure the chargers, except starting a charging session | Status, live values, address and configuration Sessions and logs: times for the last 14 days, after that only month and year Card numbers and names masked This includes personal data |
Data access App: Member with Data access on Web portal: Data access | Everything in basic access Start a charging session Update firmware Manage cards and proxy settings Invite other members | Everything in basic access History and charts Cards |
Full access (owner) App: Owner Web portal: Owner, Full access | Everything in data access Change the server address, credentials, certificates or security profile in the charger Move and remove chargers Transfer ownership Manage connected apps Change and end the access of others | Everything The energy profile of the location (only members of the owner's own team with full access) |
You can change the access of existing members.

Go to Locations > (your location) > Settings > Members and open the menu (...) next to a member. Choose Grant data access or Revoke data access, Transfer ownership, or Remove member to remove the member from the location entirely.
Rules for access
Someone who joins with a charger's Chargepoint ID and pincode, or whom a member other than the owner invites, gets basic access until the owner gives more. An invitation from the owner gives data access unless the owner chooses otherwise.
When a charger or location gets a new owner, the installer, partner and others who already had access keep it, at most data access, so they can keep managing and servicing the charger. The new owner can switch this off at any time: after Revoke data access that party keeps basic access, after Remove member it has no access. This does not apply after a claim (see below).
Everyone with access, also basic access, may use the data only for your charger or as you agreed with them, and never for their own marketing without your consent.
Plugchoice has access as far as needed to provide the service, for security and to meet the law. Our staff use it only when needed, for example when you ask support for help.
We may record when access was given and ended, and log access to personal data by partners and installers, for security.
Only say you own a charger if you do. An installer who adds a charger for a customer does so for the owner. A business that says it owns a charger it does not own is liable towards the real owner.
Claiming a charger in someone else's account
If you own a charger, or rent or live at the home where it is installed, and it is in someone else's account, you can ask us to move it to yours. Add the charger with Add charger; if it is already in another account, you can request it from there. You can also contact support.
Show that you are entitled to it: a document such as a deed or rental agreement, or a charging session at the charger that the app asks for. If the current owner lives at the same address, living there or a session is not enough.
We inform the current owner, remind them without naming you, and wait at least 7 days, unless the charger has not connected for at least 30 days.
If the current owner agrees or does not answer within those 7 days, we may move the charger. If they refuse, our support team decides on the evidence.
Charging data are split at the date ownership or occupancy passed, or else the date of the request. Until the platform separates them, the new owner can also see earlier sessions. The previous owner and the parties they gave access lose access to the charger and its later data.
Licences bought for the charger stay with the charger.
Access per charger
Access applies to the whole location: a member sees every charger at the location, at their access level. Limiting a member to specific chargers is not possible in the app or the web portal at the moment.
Joining an existing location
Do you have basic access and need data access? Ask the owner for it.
