Manually updating your charger

This article is written for Volt Time chargers only.

For the automatic updates setting, see Automatic updates.

Installing firmware is at the charger owner's own risk. Faults caused by firmware or software updates that Volt Time did not install itself are not covered by the Volt Time warranty.

Check the current firmware version

You must first check which firmware the charger is currently on.

  1. Make sure the car is unplugged, the charger should shine green and have status "Available"

  2. In the Plugchoice web portal, go to Chargers > [your charger] > Settings > Firmware and look at Current firmware. In the app, it's under Chargers > Settings > Device information.

  3. In another backoffice, the version is on the charger's overview, under Boot Information, Firm. version.

Download the correct firmware

The first version in the name should match the version the charger is currently on.

For example, updater_ray_1.3.5_to_ray_1.4.5.zip can only be applied to a charger currently running on 1.3.5, and will update it to 1.4.5.

Updating the firmware (in Plugchoice or another backoffice)

In Plugchoice: if there is a firmware update track for your model, go to Chargers > [your charger] > Settings > Firmware, press Update now and confirm with Start update. You need data access to the location. Plugchoice picks the right firmware itself; the web portal does not take an update file.

In Volt Time Cloud or a different backoffice:

  1. Make sure the car is unplugged, the charger should shine green and have status "Available"

  2. Go to Chargers > View

  3. On the Overview tab, scroll to Management

  4. Click Choose File, then choose the correct update file.

  5. Wait for the upload to finish, then press Update

  6. The update can take up to 60 minutes. The charger's LED may behave strangely and you can hear clicking noises.

Do not unpack the update file. You must upload the complete .zip file to the charger.

Updating the firmware (locally)

To update the firmware locally, so not via a backoffice, follow these steps:

  1. Log into the charger locally, see Locally logging into your Volt Time charger

  2. Go to the Admin tab

  3. Under System Update, click Browse

  4. Upload the correct update file. Do not unpack the file, upload the whole .zip file.

  5. Click install update

  6. The update can take up to 30 minutes. The charger's LED may behave strangely and you can hear clicking noises.
