Managing cards

How to add cards to your location and how to remove them

Chargers often have card readers that can scan your charge card or tag. This is used to start charging transactions.

By adding cards to a location, you can use them to authorize charging transactions on the chargers in the location. A card in the location also lets you use Autostart and a remote start, which need a card.

Adding cards to a location

You can add an RFID card: a real charge card, but also your gym membership card for instance, as long as the charger's card reader accepts it. There are two ways to add cards to a location.

Via a charger's card reader

The easiest way is to use the card reader of one of the chargers in the location.

App

Go to Chargers > Authorization, or Overview > Location settings (gear icon) > Authorization, and press Add card under Cards.

Web portal

Go to Locations > [your location] > Settings > Access & cards and press Add via card reader.

Give the card a name, this is just for your reference. Then scan your card at one of the chargers in the location (in the web portal, press Start scanning first). Wait a moment and the card is added.

Be careful: the next card scanned is added. To avoid adding the wrong card, make sure nobody else at the location is scanning a different card at that moment. If a charger at the location is locked, unlock it first.

Manually adding cards

If you don't have access to the chargers now, or if your charger doesn't have a card reader, you can add cards by their card UID. This number is different from the card contract number and is not visible on the card or tag.

More about card UIDs and how to find them

Adding cards by UID is only possible in the web portal. There you can also add many cards at once from a CSV file with Import.

Web portal

Go to Locations > [your location] > Settings > Access & cards and press Create a new card. Give the card a name, then enter its UID (case sensitive).

Deleting cards

Anyone with data access to the location, including the owner, can delete cards from the location.

Keep in mind that Autostart and remote start need at least one card in your location.

App

Go to Chargers > Authorization. Press a card under Cards and press Remove card.

Web portal

Go to Locations > [your location] > Settings > Access & cards, open Actions on the card's row and choose Delete.

When using a billing provider

If your charger is connected to a billing provider, it is important that the card is also accepted by them. Otherwise, the transaction will not start or can be ended early.

You can still add cards to the location to use Autostart and remote start. The billing provider is the one that finally accepts or rejects your card.

Frequently asked

Can I restrict certain cards to certain chargers?

Yes, in the web portal. When you create or edit a card under Access & cards, choose the chargers under Restrict to chargers. Leave it empty to allow the card on all chargers at the location.

Which cards can I add?

Any RFID card that carries at least a MiFare Classic 1K chip and that your charger's card reader accepts. Most public charge cards have this chip, and so do some other cards, such as a gym membership card or the tag that opens your driveway gate.

My card still gets rejected, what's wrong?

If a billing provider is connected to your charger, check if the card is known by them.

Otherwise, make sure the card you're scanning is really added to the location. It's easy to mix things up.

Lastly, something else may be wrong. Perhaps your charger's card reader is not working, or the card is accepted but the charger doesn't recognize your car.

Can I add my phone, credit card or NFC tag?

Usually not, as the card readers on chargers are very basic. They often only accept basic RFID cards. Your phone and credit card are too secure, and many charger card readers cannot scan them.
