Configuring chargers

What configuring chargers means and how to do it.

To make sure everything works correctly, chargers must be configured after being added to a location. This makes the charger ready for load management and billing later on.

How to (re-)configure a charger

First, make sure your charger is added to a location and that the location itself is correctly configured.

If the location's main fuse has changed (e.g. from 1 to 3 phases), you should reconfigure the location first.

If the charger has been reinstalled at a different location, you should move it to the new location first.

App

A new charger that still needs its settings shows Configuration required under Chargers. Press Continue setup.

To reconfigure a charger, go to Chargers > Settings and press Reconfigure.

Both open Plugchoice Link, which asks the questions explained below.

Web portal

For a new charger, go to Chargers > [your charger] > Settings > Power & connectors and press Set up charger. To reconfigure a charger, press Reconfigure on the same page.

Both open Plugchoice Link. You need data access to the location.

Pre-configuring chargers

If you're an installer, you can save time by preparing the location and its chargers beforehand. Read our guide on this for more details.

Configuration options explained

Things can get a bit technical, so here's an explanation of all the questions we ask during configuration.

Grid connection type

This means the grid type the charger is connected to.

TN (Star Y, PE conductor)

Common in urban areas in western Europe. Neutral (N) and earth (PE) come from the grid. PE is bonded to the transformer.

TT (Star Y, Earth Rod)

Common in rural areas. N comes from the grid, but PE is local. The building has its own earth rod.

IT (Delta Δ, No Neutral)

Common in the nordics and Belgium. The grid has no N, phases are isolated and the building has its own earth rod.

Circuit breaker rating

This refers to the charger's physical circuit breaker and its rating.

Current limit

This refers to the electronically set current limit of the charger. We advise 80% of the circuit breaker rating.

Phase rotation

This means which phases of the charger are connected to which phases of the building.

For instance, if phase 1 of the building is highly occupied, you may want to connect phase 1 of the charger to a different phase of the building.

Here's a table to explain phase rotations and which charger phase is connected to which phase of the building.
